Between 1938 and 1951 The Andrews Sisters charted 90 American pop hits, including six number ones. During the Second World War they established themselves as the most popular female vocal group of the era and, with sales in excess of 60 million units, perhaps of all time. Indeed, their close harmony vocal style was to set a benchmark that has been copied over the years by acts as diverse as The Supremes and Bananarama, whilst Bette Midler borrowed much of the arrangement from the 1941 original of 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy' for her 1973 revival. This album contains four of their number one hits among the twenty original tracks on display. |
